Walk The Mission
A unique walking experience of Mission San Luis Rey. Go behind the scenes like never before! This self-paced walking tour highlights outdoor points of interest, buildings, gardens and other areas not included in regular behind-the-scenes visits. Encounter engaging docents, photos and experience up close locations that tell the story of the mission’s 225-year history and current activities.
Walk the Mission is open to all ages.
- Register online by October 5, 2023
- Registered participants receive commemorative 225th Anniversary item at check-in.
- On-site registration on the day of the event is based on availability. If available, on-site registration will be open from 8:30am-9:30am on Saturday October 7, 2023.
- 50% of the proceeds will be donated to the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians Foundation.
- Registration fees are non-refundable and cancellations or no-shows are considered a donation. If there is inclement weather and the event is cancelled by Mission San Luis Rey, registered participants will be notified and receive a full refund.
- The route for Walk the Mission is approximately 1.5 miles in length and includes various points of interest with historical information, photos, stories, and/or docents. Since it is a self-paced walking tour, the time to complete the walk will vary by participant. We anticipate participants will complete the loop route by 10:30 am.
- The Walk the Mission route includes many unpaved and uneven walking areas, including hills, dirt and gravel paths. Not recommended for strollers, wheelchairs or participants with walking difficulties.
- It may be necessary to stagger starts times to ensure safety and enjoyable experiences along the walking areas.
- Recommended items to bring: bottled water, sunscreen, protection from sun or inclement weather, comfortable walking shoes for a variety of terrains.
